More than 20 Korean artists from International Art Cooperative Organization had participated in the Art Expo. The upcoming 2nd International Art Expo Malaysia 2008 scheduled to be held at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC) in Kuala Lumpur, from November 26 to November 30, 2008. The mammoth event promises to be a grander affair after 18 countries took part in its 1st International Art Expo Malaysia 2007 at the same venue in November last year. There were 180 exhibitors occupying 105 booths. For a first event, sales of artworks have been more than satisfactory and most encouraging. The countries which took part last year were Britain, China, Cuba, France, Hong Kong, Hungary, Indonesia, Ireland, Malaysia, Myanmar, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Korea (South and North), Taiwan, Thailand, Uzbeckistan and Vietnam. The 1st International Art Expo Malaysia 2007 was awarded as the BIGGEST Art exposition in the country with 1,500 verified paintings on display. Veteran Chung Cheng Sun, founder of Malaysia Institute of Art, demonstrated his mastery,Chinese ink brush painting, during the art expo. Art Expo Malaysia is an international art expo featuring renowned artists, established art galleries, reputable dealers and a host of art-related businesses from all over the world, with the focus on Asia. It is organized by Art Expo Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., whose senior management and staff have enormous experience with more than 100 art events and exhibitions to their credit. There are many favourable pointers to the art expo being held in Kuala Lumpur, which is strategically located in the fast-growing Asean region with a combined market of 544.3 million. The nominal GDP of the 10-member Asean countries is approximately 22% that of East Asia (excluding Japan). (Source: Asean-Japan Centre) Economically, Malaysia is upbeat. The stock exchange is at an all-time high since 1994, the Malaysian Ringgit (currency) has also risen impressively against the US Dollar, and the growth rate is significant (5.9% in 2006). Malaysia, with a population of 25 million, has attained progressive and sustainable growth in materialistic wealth, peace and harmony under the government of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The 2nd International Art Expo Malaysia 2008 will be chockfull of special events to make it more memorable and meaningful. [Editor] Zhang Shuo
